We are currently recruiting for the following role:

BUSINESS UNIT DIRECTOR, basic salary £150,000 + 30% bonus

For a major division of a global logistics business, in the UK this division has a £250m turnover in sales and a 3500 strong workforce, the client base is blue chip through retained clients and major new wins.  The business is looking to significantly drive its growth through further new business wins and strengthening its retained client base by being best in class.

A major part of the role will be to create a high performance culture by building and leading high performing teams across the business unit and at all levels. Key to this will be the leadership of business growth, improving service to customers, engagement with trade unions and driving efficiencies and continuous improvement.

Due to the transformation initiative that the client will be going through (incorporating operational efficiency, HR reinvigoration) the BUD will need to be a resilient, battle hardened leader who can think strategically and act tactically. Whilst the resolute trade union element is important, we are not looking for a bellicose individual who will spend time battling in this arena, as there is good IR support. More important is the fact that the team is being rebuilt and thus the BUD will need to be able to regroup and rejuvenate a refreshed team. Also highly important is the need to be good with the customer, so commercial verve is requisite.

We are looking for an individual who has good problem solving skills, and can also think clearly under pressure. Calmness and balance are requisite.

The BUD needs to be a 'modern leader', who is respectful of peers and colleagues alike, collaborative, consultative and can lead by example. Leadership through autonomy will be expected, whilst of course the business will do all to support the BUD.

We are not particularly looking for a 'loud' charismatic leader, but more a confident and assertive leader who is prepared to roll sleeves up and demonstrate situational leadership, especially in the early part of the tenure of the position.
